I’ve been writing and telling stories my whole life.
I started out creating hand-drawn picture books with simple stories as a child and evolved into writing articles for my high school and two college newspapers. Jump forward into 25 years of local and international journalism in publications ranging from the Cape Cod Times to The Guardian with stories ranging from textile and food waste, to animal, environmental and human rights issues. Throw in 3 years as an online magazine editor for a massively popular website (EcoSalon), working with 45 writers all over the world and 5 different topics around sustainability. I consider that job my Masters in Sustainability.
As a veteran of the slow fashion movement, I have worn many hats:
-15 years as a sustainable fashion writer and consultant for lots of brands, educational institutions and pioneering designers
-5 years a market rep for sustainable fashion showroom True Collaborative Fashion
-6 years as Director of Communications at Pratt Institute’s Brooklyn Fashion + Design Accelerator
-11 years Communications Director (+ strategy + sustainability + events + collaborations) for natural dye guru Kathy Hattori of Botanical Colors
I am also Director of the Southeastern New England Fibershed whose mission is to create a regional fibershed that unites fiber to finished product. From soil and farmer to processor and cut and sew, our fibershed (encompassing the eastern half of Massachusetts and all of Rhode Island) is connecting the dots of the bioregional supply chain to reinvigorate a once-thriving New England farming and textile industry.
I currently work at what I consider one of my most important jobs yet, wastewater communications. Now in year 3 of consulting for the Massachusetts Alternative Septic System Test Center (MASSTC), I work hard to find the disconnect for why people don’t value water and work to build bridges that reconnect people to the ocean, lakes and ponds they love.
I’d love to work with you. Email me at hello@amydufault.com
